17 Then the flood fncame upon the earth for forty days, and the water increased and lifted up the ark, so that it rose above the earth. 18 The water prevailed and increased greatly upon the earth, and the ark floated on the surface of the water. 19 The water prevailed more and more upon the earth, so that all the high mountains everywhere under the heavens were covered. 20 The water prevailed fifteen cubits higher, and the mountains were covered. 21 All flesh that moved on the earth perished, birds and cattle and beasts and every swarming thing that swarms upon the earth, and all mankind; 22 of all that was on the dry land, all in whose nostrils was the breath of the spirit of life, died. 23 Thus He blotted out every living thing that was upon the face of the land, from man to animals to creeping things and to birds of the sky, and they were blotted out from the earth; and only Noah was left, together with those that were with him in the ark. 24 The water prevailed upon the earth one hundred and fifty days.
Well, it has been a while since I read the story from Genesis. The water stayed on the earth 150 days. I didn't realize it was that specific.
I know that I have read things where aquatic sea life fossils have been found in many high elevation mountain caves. I find that reassuring. I think God desires our faith and our belief, but He doesn't leave us too long without encouragement.
How scary it must have been to see all that he had ever known disappear under the water. Talk about new territory! And how much faith he must have had that God really knew what he was doing. I am sure that I would have deluged God with a list of questions. Are you sure God? Am I ever going to see trees again? What will I eat? How will I feed all these, how will it fit in the boat?
I would like to think I am a "Noah", but in reality I am probably more like Moses with a list of reasons why I can't do what God desires of me. Just being honest.
So glad and thankful that Noah found grace in the eyes of the Lord. For without him, we would not be here!
