Then God said, "Let the waters below the heavens be gathered into one place, and let the dry land appear"; and it was so.
God called the dry land earth, and the gathering of the waters He called seas; and God saw that it was good.
Then God said, "Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees on the earth bearing fruit after their kind with seed in them"; and it was so.
The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed after their kind, and trees bearing fruit with seed in them, after their kind; and God saw that it was good.
There was evening and there was morning, a third day.
Well, this seems pretty self explanatory. I LOVE that it is spelled out that God intentionally made the trees to bear fruit that had the seed in it to produce the tree again. I have always been amazed by the fact that DNA in the seed tells it how to grow. That the Designer is evident in the fruit of the trees. I find it funny that no matter how hard science tries to disprove God, they prove Him over and over again.

Genesis 1:6
vs. 6 Then God said, "Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters."
God made the expanse, and separated the waters which were below the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse; and it was so.
God called the expanse heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, a second day.
OK. Now let me get this straight. The expanse that seperates the waters here from the waters above is called heaven. So there are waters above heaven? I guess I missed that somehow.
Heaven is just above us. It is what seperates us from "the waters above". I wonder what the waters above are? Interesting. I may peek around to see what other people think about this.
Apparently after a very brief look there are divergent opinions. Some consider this clouds with heaven between earth and the atmospheric clouds somehow. Others consider space as heaven and questions where these waters are being held above space. Interesting but not tripping me up. Maybe as we read on, this question will be addressed. Or, maybe it will be answered much later. Either way, there ya go.
Lord, it isn't much to read tonight. Thank You for Your word, for giving me the prompting to start this. I pray that You will give me Your wisdom as I seek to walk through Your word with my heart open to You. I pray that You would keep me close to You, guide me and please share Your wisdom with all who are studying. In Jesus Name amen

Why?
While I have read through the Bible before, I wanted to do it as an adult, praying, and at my own pace. I am not a consistent person by nature, so daily just doesn't happen. Also, I didn't want to be set into a prescribed volume of reading because I want to study it and try to understand. I can't do that 5 chapters at a time. I just want to rush through and get it done. So, I am doing this slowly. I don't know how long it will take, but I feel that I will understand God better if I fully read His word, in context, desiring to understand him better.
I have not been to seminary. Any insight is seriously just me reading hopefully under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. I do have a few well educated friends who help me through questions, but they get the email after I have already posted it. So, there may be comments after that clarify something I might have misunderstood.
I just invite you to read through with me if you would like.

Genesis 1:1
Genesis 1 - New American Standard Bible
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.
Well, this is rather self-explanatory isn't it. Seems like it anyway. But, I think it is important that this is the very first line of scripture. God created the heavens and the earth. It didn't happen by chance, it didn't exist and then we made God up to suit our own purposes. In the beginning was GOD. He did the creating.
The earth was formless and void, and darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was moving over the surface of the waters.
I have not been to seminary, so my thoughts on this are simpleish. We may not have had the gift of the Holy Spirit until after Jesus went back to heaven, but the Spirit was there from the beginning. The earth had no form, but there were waters. I find that interesting and hard to comprehend. Scripture does not tell us how long the earth was formless and void. It doesn't tell us how long God moved over the surface of the waters before he decided to being the 6 day transformation. Because I think any error of understanding is with us and never with God, if the earth really "tests out" at billions of years, this is how I think that is possible while still knowing that God was the creator and Genesis is true. Just my personal attempt to know and believe scripture and figure out how science fits into that. Obviously not a seriously educated observation.
Then God said, "Let there be light"; and there was light.
God saw that the light was good; and God separated the light from the darkness.
God called the light day, and the darkness He called night. And there was evening and there was morning, one day.
I had a science teacher once who suggested that a day is like a thousand years to God so He may have created the world over many thousands of years. I say this verse eliminates that possibility. evening and there was morning, one day. God speaks and things happen. It is comforting to know that if God really wants to do something, all He has to do it speak it. If He chooses for the storm to stop - it does. He is that powerful. Knowing that He is that powerful and He loves me is very comforting and calms my fears when I remember it. How cool it that. My God can speak the world into existence!
I told you this would be a slow process. This is all I can do today. One day at a time, and who knows what we will learn. Besides, I think that is a good thought to stop on. My God can speak the world into existence!
Love y'all
Please Lord, guide us with Your wisdom as we seek You through Your word. Please let us see the whole picture and see Your love through it all. Please help us to read with the purpose of learning more about the one who loves us so much. Please help us to be seeking You in our hearts and hearing Your voice. I will try Lord to continue this until I am through Your word how ever long that takes. Please help me, You know my weakness. I think it is funny when You have me do something YOu know I am weak in. I know it is You and only You. You.
